Dynamic Behaviour of the Water-Food-Energy Nexus: Focus on Crop Production and Consumption
The system dynamic model platform was used to create a new approach to analysis of dynamic behaviour focusing on joint water-energy-food interactions stemming from crop production and consumption at the national level under different scenarios and alternatives.
The model simulates the interconnections among the amount of food production, water for producing this amount, and energy required for food production including energy for irrigation. The developed system determines: i) water and energy footprints of crops production and consumption; ii) virtual water and energy import and export; iii) the national water and energy saving balance due to trade of agricultural commodities; iv) a proposed water-food-energy nexus index. A case study from Egypt was used to test the system and illustrate some its significance. The research illustrates the importance of considering the water-food-energy nexus when developing national strategies.

A Strategic Long-Term Water-Based Food Security Model for Egypt (FS)
This study provides decision makers with different alternatives to help in drawing future sustainable agricultural policies for Egypt, based on water management, to achieve national food security.
The study succeeded in development a strategic long-term water-based food security model for Egypt and management policy alternatives portfolio utilizing water resources availability to guarantee national food security for Egypt.

SRU as a focal point aimed to Promote, Facilitate and Enhance Egyptian Participation in EU Funded Research Programmes especially 7th EC Framework Programme for RTD at National Water Research Center (NWRC) and Ministry of water resources and Irrigation through
• Raise the awareness about FP7 at the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation (MWRI)
• Disseminate information on the various aspects of FP7 to researchers at MWRI.
• Identify of potential researchers and research teams at MWRI who show relevant professionals capabilities to participate in the EC research funded programmes.
• Facilitate research cooperation between researchers MWRI and their counterparts at the EU institutions.
